Comprehensive Health, Wellness, and Support Services in Fort Chipewyan

Providing coordinated medical, community, and wellness programs to support every stage of life.

Home Care


The Home & Community Care Program promotes a coordinated system of home and community-based health care services that enable people with disabilities, chronic or acute illnesses and the elderly to receive the care they need in their homes and communities.

Treatment Services


Treatment Services Program provides medically necessary primary health and clinical care services through a collaborative nurse led delivery model as a first point of medical contact for residents and families of Fort Chipewyan.

Public Health Care

Public Health Care provides several services to the families of Fort Chipewyan:

  • Communicable Disease Control reduces communicable disease risk by health education, delivering an immunization program, participating in influenza and emergency preparedness plans
  • HIV/AIDS Prevention Program strives to reduce the incidence and spread of HIV/AID through the promotion o healthy lifestyle choices
  • Safe Drinking Water Program promotes and monitors safe drinking water quality in Fort Chipeywan as per the mandatory requirements to protect the public health of community residents.

Healthy Child Development

Health Child Development Program

Provides several services to mothers and children of Fort Chipewyan

  • Canada Prenatal and Nutrition Program (CPNP) works on improving and sustaining maternal and infant nutritional practices by providing nutritional screening, education, counselling, maternal nourishment and promoting breastfeeding by offering education and support.
  • Maternal Child Health Program provides culturally competent and comprehensive care to support families in Fort Chipewyan through health promotion and maximizing linkages to other community-based health programs to give each child support to reach their fullest development potential.
  • Children’s Oral Health Initiative (COHI) strives to maintain and improve the oral health of children by increasing access to good dental health care and by reducing and preventing oral disease through prevention, education and promotion to the children, parents and caregivers.

Healthy Living

Aboriginal Diabetes Initiative strives to reduce the rate of diabetes by empowering the community through information and strengthening linkages to increase health promotion activities.

Nutrition North Program provides nutrition education initiatives that follow the guiding principles and supports community implementation such as the Good Food Box Program.

The Wellness Programs at Nunee provides several mental wellness and culturally sensitive activities to all residents of this community and help manage, promote mental wellness in a supportive, caring and trusting environment where all individuals feel safe and welcome. The team collaborates with community partners and external service providers to ensure that residents have access to a myriad of support.

Administration

Administration includes the below corporate functions:

Nunee’s finance function is responsible for managing the organization’s financial resources. Its activities include the recording and payment of employees and vendors, budgeting, accounting, financial reporting &analysis and cash flow analysis and forecasting.  It ensures financial stability and efficiency

Human Resources focuses on the organization’s employees. This includes hiring, training, compensation analysis, payroll processing and updating and enforcing HR policies. It ensures an adequate and productive workforce to achieve Nunee’s goals.

Maintenance’s responsibility is ensuring that the building, machines and vehicles are in good operating order and can deliver the expected performance.  It includes the servicing, repair, modification inspection and condition verification
